Hi, I’m Vanessa

In spring 2023 I made the decision to start dedicating myself more to my interest in aviation, which has lead me on a fantastic journey full of learning, new life experiences, meeting inspiring people and discovering what it’s like to be driven by a passion.

Maybe you are in a similar position to where I was at that time, curious, but new to this wholly different world of flight, or maybe you’re a seasoned captain just wanting to read something else than company approved manuals;
Regardless of what led you here, provided you have at least a minor interest in flying things, this is the blog for you.

A bit about me

I grew up in Switzerland, somewhere between the local cow and the next town’s herd of sheep. There was some aviation influence in my family, with my late granduncle having worked as Maître de Cabine for Swissair and one of my uncles working within the Força Aérea in Brazil, both sharing stories of mundane passenger interactions and cargo loading events that gripped me like the most intense thrillers.

Many aviation related experiences shaped my childhood: From keeping myself awake on long Cross Atlantic flights just to not miss a single moment, to trying to get as close to the runway as they let me so that I could watch a C130 land at a military airshow.
All moments that lead me to an easy decision: Get into computer science.

Yes, although the interest was there, I didn’t even consider pursuing aviation further. Not until some years later, when the curiosity finally won, and a simple google of “what even are the throttles” turned into a fully developed obsession. This then naturally progressed into a download of “Microsoft Flight Simulator X” being made and many hours being spent pretend flying a 737 to various destinations out of Heathrow.

This is what brought me to spring 2023, when I finally decided to “scratch that itch” and take a discovery flight, shortly after embarking on the journey to becoming a private pilot, which is where I find myself today.

Why the blog?

There are simply too many interesting facts and experiences within the wold of aviation not to share.

If you are an experienced aviator you will remember the unique feeling of your first flight at the controls and if not, I hope this blog will motivate you to experience this for yourself.

I hope that with my stories I will inspire you, regardless of where you’re at within your own flying journey.
Aviation brings many aspects that one can learn from, be it for the actual flying of an aircraft, engineering, leadership or even personal wellbeing.
